What can I say, that's a lot of cash!
Apparently LeBron James isn’t the only player interested in spending a few years playing basketball in Europe to the tune of $50 million per season. Kobe Bryant, who of course grew up in Italy as his dad played pro ball there, has expressed interest in possibly making a move to Italy when he’s up for a new contract next summer.
With Josh Childress, Earl Boykins, Carlos Arroyo, Carlos Delfino and others already moving this summer, a trickling of players are finding better contracts overseas. Of course, there are equal numbers of players making the move to the NBA each year such as Marc Gasol or even Anthony Parker a few years ago.
Is this a threat to the NBA’s global supremacy? Now that legitimate stars of the highest caliber are admitting their interest, should David Stern be worried? Or are these ploys to get the collective bargaining agreement changed to increase the maximum salaries from their current levels of about $20 million per? Should there be a ‘Beckham Rule’ for the NBA?
Take the weekend to sort this out amongst yourselves. For additional info check out Feet in the Paint and our recent LeBron post.
