As those near and dear to me know, I maintain a rather irrational infatuation with Rafael Benitez. Despite his utterly muted personality and his team’s bland (albeit successful) brand of football, I have a soft spot for the guy.
As such, this year I shall be following the exploits of Liverpool, aka the Reds, aka the Merseysiders, aka The Team Whose Starting XI Is Never Ever The Same.
I will pine fruitlessly over the age-old question of how the Reds manage to compete in Europe seemingly every year, yet are unable to seriously crack the Prem’s top 2 spots.
At least the talismanic Gerrard, wunderkind Torres, and potential new-boy Gareth Barry should make for some occasionally entertaining play.
Prediction: 4th place in the EPL; winners of the UEFA Champions League
