It appears Zenit St. Petersburg have lowered their asking price for Andrei Arshavin in order to facilitate a move to Tottenham in the very near future. Arshavin has spoken with Juande Ramos and likes the idea of playing in London. With Dimitar Berbatov ready to sign with Man United, Arshavin would join Darren Bent up front either as a second striker or as an attacking midfielder. It’s taken quite some time for Zenit to drop their price, even though it was pretty clear no one was going to pay it.
As Spurs will not be in Europe this season due to their 11th place finish in the Premiership last season, attracting a player like Arshavin would be a major coup. Clearly Ramos is trying to assemble a club that will compete at the very top of the table and get the North London side back into Europe.
