At Goodison Park, Aiyegbeni Yakubu’s 65th minute goal gave Everton an important draw with visiting Middlesbrough, 1-1. Gary O’Neil’s 8th minute strike gave Boro the early lead and the hope for three away points against the club sitting just one position (and one point) ahead of them on the table. But sharing the points today prevented each side from nearing Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, at the KC Stadium, Daniel Cousin and Geovanni scored to sandwich two Stephen Ireland goals to earn Hull City a draw with visiting Man City. The draw stunts Man City and keeps them below the to half (and adds to their inability to win matches away). Hull find the point very useful, though they would have enjoyed the full three points, as it keeps them clear of Everton and Middlesbrough (see above) and just two points below Aston Villa for the final European qualification position.
